DANCEMAKERS - July 2014
"The body says what words can not."
- Martha Graham
Dancemakers shape, challenge, and inspire how we experience dance. Children studied famous modern choreographers and the techniques they use to create. They learned dances made by masters like Alvin Ailey, Remy Charlip, Martha Graham, David Parsons, and Paul Taylor then used their techniques to generate the children's own movement.
SEIZE THE DAY - August 2014
Celebrating the vibrancy of DANCE in Musical Theater!
Dancers sang, danced, watched, drew, painted, and were inspired by musical theater in film and on stage. Children created dances influenced by "Electricity" from Billy Elliot, "Rich Man's Frug" from Sweet Chariot, "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray, "Circle of Life" from Lion King, "Seize the Day" from Newsies, and the title song from Singing in the Rain. The dancers even learned an original song from a musical developed by our very own Matt Fetbrandt.
